A lived-experience-led emotional literacy movement born from necessity inside New Folsom—and built for anyone with a heartbeat.

A decade of changing the narrative

One person was told:
“Do something about it.”
So he did.

In 2014, New Folsom was marked by violence, overdose, racial tension, and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. Sam Brown began shaping his lived experience into curriculum. Thirty people joined the first group. The approach spread across the institution to roughly 2,200 people—including mental-health and administrative-segregation housing.

2014

Thirty people begin

The first 10P workshop opens inside a maximum-security Level IV prison.

2015

The institution takes notice

Participation expands and 10P reaches the front page of the Inside CDCR newsletter.

2021

Sam comes home

After 24 years, the founder brings the model beyond the walls.

Today

The meaning expands

10P serves prisons, youth, families, athletes, disabled communities, schools, workplaces, and circles.
